Students at Dye Elementary are learning fundamental math skills in an engaging way. By studying statistics from their favorite NBA and WNBA teams, students in the Math Hoops Club improve their math skills and understanding—and have fun while doing it.
High school students at the International Academy of Flint practice mindfulness, a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. This practice, which has many benefits, can be applied both in school and at home as well.
In the What’s Poppin’? Club, Southwestern Classical Academy students are encouraged to express themselves. They check in by sharing stories from their day with peers, leading small group discussions and writing or performing their expressions for larger groups.
To get in physical activity, students at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary participate in a 15-minute pow-wow where students must complete a series of tasks in 15 minutes. Tasks range from simple workouts to obstacle courses.
