In conjunction with the Afterschool Alliance, various YouthQuest sites celebrated Light On Afterschool throughout the month of October. The goal: To celebrate and advocate for afterschool programs. Events included a harvest festival, a student showcase, a celebration with music and dancing, and a roller skating party.
At Holmes STEM Academy, YouTube Club showcases students’ skills in art and communications. After planning their own content, students film, direct, edit and create videos. For Lights On Afterschool, students created a video that was shared on YouthQuest social media pages.
To facilitate physical fitness at Freeman Elementary, YouthQuest staff coordinated Super Hero in Training activities. Students created super hero personas, made their own costumes, then gathered in the gym where they had relay races and went through obstacle courses.
Students are learning what it takes to be famous in Future Musicians Club. In the month of October, club participants explored the different cadences in rap music and then had the chance to write their own songs.
YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
