YouthQuest Highlights: January 2019

Hitsville U.S.A.

Students at Pierce Elementary explored the roots of rock and roll at the Motown Museum in Detroit. Highlights from the field trip included seeing Michael Jackson’s signature hat and gloves, touring the recording booth where many famous singers got their start and singing along in the recording studio to “My Girl” by The Temptations.

Quiet Down

In the Talk And Listen Kindly (T.A.L.K) Club at International Academy of Flint, high school students were challenged to create a silent activity where they used other forms of communication in lieu of talking. Students created a card game with silent challenges and used a sound meter to ensure everyone was quiet.

Off and On the Court

Multiple YouthQuest sites had the opportunity to attend a Detroit Pistons game against the Miami Heat. Some students were able to get on the court and participate in a high five tunnel with the away team. Before attending the trip, students at Holmes STEM Academy participated in activities that touched on offensive/defensive techniques and statistics free throw percentages.

Let Freedom Ring

Students joined together to explore the idea of freedom during different time periods. From slavery to what freedom means today, students at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary wrote about and learned what the word freedom means to them.
