Myrakle Wilburn, a graduate of International Academy of Flint, is working her way to becoming a franchise owner for Culver’s Restaurant. She is currently working as a general manager and has recently helped open two new locations.

“My goal is to be an owner for this group of Culver’s within the next five years,” says Wilburn. “If you prove that you are qualified, the company will help push you through the classes you need to get to that level.”

Wilburn has worked diligently to get to where she is today. In April 2020, she was hired on at Culver’s as a team lead. After three months, she was promoted to second assistant manager, then first assistant manager and finally, general manager – a position she has had since December 2020.

She credits her ability to move up quickly through the company to the lessons she learned in TeenQuest.

“Through TeenQuest, I learned how to appreciate mentorship and leadership above you,” says Wilburn. “That is how I moved up through Culver’s. I buddied up with the current general manager when I started so I can start to see things through their perspective.”

Wilburn is continuing to follow her goals and continues to be a success.

What skills did you use when you interviewed for your current position?

I make my interviews more of a conversation to make myself more comfortable and pull more out of the interviewer. I just try and keep the conversation flowing.

What is your favorite memory from TeenQuest or Summer Youth Initiative?

I really enjoyed working through SYI. It was my first job and with that job, I was able to get my next job down the line. It set me up for the workforce.

Take it seriously and try to digest everything that you learn.

What is one of your proudest moments since TeenQuest?

I recently got employee of the quarter through Culver’s! That has never happened to me at another job before and I am very proud.
