In partnership with Genesee Career Institute (GCI), GST Michigan Works! is hosting three career fairs designed for GCI students to explore their various career options after graduation. This partnership is part of a larger goal – getting people employed and getting employers the people they need.
“It leads to a stronger economy and a stronger Genesee County,” says Cindy Thornthwaite, business services manager at GST Michigan Works!. “When people are working, employers are putting out products that are needed, and it makes for a stronger community.”
For GCI, Thornthwaite’s team has identified three up-and-coming industries and are inviting GCI students to explore the variety of careers in those sectors. These fairs include:
During each fair, employers will also have a chance to interact with GCI staff and explore the school – which provides students with instruction and hands-on learning in high-wage, high-demand programs that help prepare them for immediate entry into the workforce upon completion of their program or entry into a college-level program.
“Faculty will be able to talk with employers to make sure that they are teaching everything that needs to be taught in their respective fields,” says Thornthwaite. “This helps us support the talent pipeline and make sure that employers’ voices are heard.”
Outside of the GCI job fairs, GST Michigan Works! hosts fairs throughout the year, which are open to the public. Upcoming job fairs include:
Both job fairs are located at the GST Michigan Works! Flint Service Center, 711 North Saginaw St. in Flint.
