New this year, YQ Biz has moved to Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township and will be held Saturday, Dec. 14. Families and community members are encouraged to shop the 33 student-run businesses that were selected from the YQ Biz Shark Tank-style competitions that took place during the fall.
“Our students have been working hard to complete their products for the YQ Biz Expo in December,” says Nefertari Jones, Program Director for YouthQuest. “We can’t wait for the public to experience their entrepreneurial spirit.”
The holiday expo wraps up months of financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, during which students learned about marketing, creating business plans and presenting their ideas in a compelling manner.
“YQ Biz isn’t just about making and selling a product,” Jones says. “It teaches students how to think creatively, critically and outside of the box. These are skills that they can use wherever they go and whatever career path they follow.”
Products available for purchase include fleece blankets, bath bombs and a variety of holiday ornaments and decorations. Here’s a sneak peek at items from some of the student-run businesses you’ll see at YQ Biz:
