Get Involved: August Volunteer Opportunities

|

August is always a highlight in Flint & Genesee thanks to the many special events and activities held here. But these events – which draw spectators and participants from all over the region, state, and country – are only possible with the help of the many community members who volunteer their time and services.

This summer, Flint & Genesee Education & Talent is calling upon its current and past program participants to get involved in one or more of this year’s events.

“When it comes to growing professionally and personally, volunteerism provides invaluable opportunities to learn new skills, expand your network, and make a meaningful impact on the world around you,” said Brianna Mosier, executive director of the division of the Flint & Genesee Group. “It’s also a great way to fulfill volunteer requirements if you belong to a member organization like the National Honors Society and to feel more connected to your community. The benefits are truly endless.”

Interested in helping make one or more of this year’s events possible? Here’s what you need to know:

Aug. 10: Be a Tourist in Your Hometown

This fan-favorite is back again after a five-year hiatus. The event allows residents and visitors to visit and tour more than 20 area attractions for just $1/person. Even better, complimentary transportation is provided courtesy of Mass Transportation Authority – Flint.

Volunteers will be stationed at registration and each bus stop providing directions and answering questions. To volunteer, sign up at ExploreFlintandGenesee.org/BAT.

Aug. 19-25: The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren

This 54-hole stroke play golf tournament features 78 PGA TOUR Champions professionals competing for a $2.2 million purse at the historic Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc.

Volunteers are needed to check tickets and credentials at admission gates, assist with daily maintenance work at Warwick Hills, drive the ADA shuttle along an assigned course, and more. For details, visit TheAllyChallenge.com/volunteers.

Aug. 21-24: HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races

Each year, thousands of runners, walkers, and spectators join together for the signature 10 Mile, in addition to the Half Crim 5 Mile, 5K, One Mile, and Teddy Bear Trot.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties, including distributing pizza at the food tent, organizing and distributing race packets, blocking small intersections from traffic, cleaning up the festival lot, and more. For a full list of volunteer opportunities, click here.

Aug. 29-30: Vehicle City GridIron Classic

Back for its seventh year, this two-day event of doubleheaders kicks off the high school football season in Flint &Genesee.

Volunteers are needed to work four- to five-hour shifts in concessions, program sales, hospitality tent, traffic monitoring, admissions, and more. A one-hour orientation will be held closer to the event to acquaint volunteers with the stadium and event particulars.
