Everything You Need to Know About Flint Promise

High school seniors in Flint will soon be able to apply for Flint Promise, a new scholarship program for students who live in Flint and graduate from a high school or GED program located in Flint.

This opportunity will make it possible for qualifying students to attend area colleges at no cost.

Interested in learning more? Here’s what you need to know:

1. The number of years a student has lived in and attended school in Flint determines what percentage of college tuition, books and fees will be covered.
2. Flint Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship, which goes into effect after grants and other scholarships have been applied, and will cover up to 100 percent of a student’s costs.
3. There is no household income requirement.
4. Scholarship recipients may attend Mott Community College for up to three academic years to pursue a certificate or an associate degree.
5. Once a student earns his or her associate degree or transfer certificate from Mott Community College, he or she is eligible for automatic acceptance to the University of Michigan-Flint and may extend the Flint Promise scholarship for up to three academic years as he or she pursues a bachelor’s degree.
6. Each Flint Promise student will be paired with a Success Coach who will provide academic and personal support through the student’s college career.
7. Applicants are eligible to apply for and use the Flint Promise scholarship through the age of 24.

Enrollment for the scholarship will begin March 1, with a deadline of July 16 for first-year students enrolling in the fall semester.
