Talent Horizon Summit

Join Flint & Genesee Education & Talent along with other economic development partners for the Talent Horizon Summit! This half-day summit will dive into the future of the talent landscape in the region and equip human resources, talent professionals, and educational partners with the knowledge to help grow and retain area talent. You’ll leave this summit with the knowledge you need to develop a robust talent strategy for your organization.

Chris Rishko currently serves as the Director of Talent Solutions at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing systems and strategies in collaboration with partners across Michigan to deliver modernized short- and long-term talent pipeline solutions that enable employers to achieve their workforce objectives. Prior to his current role, Chris served as Chief Executive Officer of Great Lakes Michigan Works! He oversaw the administration and delivery of numerous federal and state workforce development programs across the five-county Great Lakes Bay Region. Additionally, Chris is a retired Air Force officer with 22 years of experience in multiple command and control weapons systems. Chris holds graduate degrees from Central Michigan University and Northwood University. He and his wife, Sara, live in Midland with their four children.

Whether you’ve never hosted an intern or are looking to create a more robust experience, this session is designed to leave participants feeling confident in what it takes to connect with young talent ahead of the 2025 summer intern season and how to partner on the Career Service Centers at local colleges.

Session #2: Magnet for Talent in Mid-Michigan 

During this breakout session, learn what Gen Z talent values and is seeking in both an employer and their professional careers – from compensation to time off.  You’ll also explore how to keep your talent.  Not everything costs money – in fact, some of the most effective aspects of retention are completely free. Learn how to target retention initiatives in line with generational trends and preferences. Level the playing field with the larger metropolitan areas and keep our area talent!
