Employer Spotlight: Lear Corporation

Lear Corporation is a more than 100-year-old company and a global automotive technology leader in Seating and E-Systems. The company works as a supplier for General Motors and other automotive manufacturers, making Flint a great base for its operations.

At Lear, employees who come on board are taught a variety of jobs while in training through a rotation model. This means that near the end of the first three months of training, full-time employees have a good foundation in manufacturing with room for growth.

“We only offer team leader positions to internal applicants,” says Sean Roberts, assistant HR manager at Lear Corporation. “Additionally, we have a great benefits package with tuition reimbursement for those who are looking to get engineering degrees, as well as a partnership with Mott Community College that combines classes with on-the-job training in automation.”

Lear focuses on these benefits to help bolster their employees’ knowledge to ensure a growth plan for workers who are interested.

“Lear is all about development,” says Roberts. “If you’re interested in manufacturing, this is a great place to start.”

Roberts also notes that a number of production managers and superintendents at the organization started on the floor. And that is because Lear focuses on promoting within and the advancement of its employees.

As for the types of applicants that Lear is looking for, Roberts states that because of its internal training program, there isn’t a need for prior experience in manufacturing.

“We’re looking for someone who wants to be here and is willing to work,” says Roberts. “If we find someone who wants to be part of our team and has a positive attitude, we are more than happy to train that individual.”

Currently, Lear is hiring Production Team Members for its location in Flint. The hourly starting rate is $15.50 and offers a full benefits package after 90 days.
