A Seasoned Experience: Students Explore Season Changes

September is filled with pumpkin pie, apple picking and weather patterns – at least it is for YouthQuest students who are exploring how seasons change this month.

“We are always finding new ways to teach key concepts by exploring something that our students consider fun and interesting,” says Nefertari Jones, YouthQuest’s interim program director. “By exploring seasonal changes, we can teach students about culture, physics, mathematics and life cycles.”

Some activities students will participate in this month include:

• Exploring how the angle of the earth determines the seasons
• Identifying the similarities and differences in the four seasons
• Learning how weather differs throughout the nation

To extend learning at home, parents can:

• Go outside and explore the changing of the leaves. Ask students what it means when the trees change color.
• Talk to students about their favorite holidays in each season. Ask them to share their favorite traditions and memories.
• Visit an apple orchard. Get your student in the fall spirit and let them experience the season.
