For some, going into a job interview can be nerve-wracking, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience. Luckily, TeenQuest students learn tips and tricks to help calm their nerves and put their best foot forward during an interview. Here are some tips you can take with you to your next job interview.
It may sound simple, but the way you look is going to give the first impression to the person who is interviewing you. It can also give you more confidence – when you look good, you feel good. Be sure to wear something business casual to business professional to make sure you show up looking and feeling your best.
Another first impression is a good handshake. Be prepared when you walk up to an interviewer that you should extend your hand for a handshake. Then make sure it is firm but not overbearing. When you shake someone’s hand be sure to greet them by saying, “It’s nice to meet you.”
It can be hard when nerves set in to be fully present in an interview, but it is important to overcome that. You want to make sure you are listening fully to what the interviewer has to say so that you can respond appropriately.
When going into an interview make sure you have everything prepared. You’ll want a copy of your resume on hand, you’ll want to practice answers to common questions that come up in an interview, and you’ll want to think of questions you might want to know from the interviewer. Be sure to practice for your interview beforehand so you know what you want to say and how you want to present yourself.
Interviews can feel intimidating, but it is important to relax and have fun with it. Your personality is part of what your interviewer will be looking for and you want to make sure you let it shine. If you feel anxious, make sure you take a breath and tell yourself it is going to be great.
