YouthQuest Highlights: November 2022

YouthQuest’s Got Talent

The Youth Advisory Council for YouthQuest at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary planned a YouthQuest talent show that will be hosted in December before winter break. Students honed their talents then auditioned to be part of the show, coordinated judges and a host, and planned the event. Students were able to take ownership of the planning and timeline for the event as well as booking the talent for the show.

Reading is Fun

To help boost literacy at Pierce Elementary, learning guides worked with students during the academic support time of YouthQuest. Staff helped students work on reading by teaching students how to sound out words, how to say long and short vowels, focusing on compound words and hosting a spelling bee with prizes to test students’ skills.

Giving Thanks

To celebrate the holiday, students at Brownell STEM Academy attended a Thanksgiving-themed family night. A Thanksgiving dinner was catered by Bob Evans for students and their families. The students were also able to show off artwork they created that month in an art exhibition created by the students.

You Made it!

At Eisenhower Elementary, students learned how to make a variety of art projects in the Claymakers Club. Using air-dry clay, students learned how to mold, cut and paint the clay to make different pieces they could take home. The club provides a great opportunity for the students to express themselves artistically. During November, students made bowls, Christmas tree sculptures and plates.
