YouthQuest Highlights: May 2019

Time to Celebrate

Each site hosted its own end-of-the-year celebration. Events included bounce houses, carnival games, DJs, photo booths and more. From dance parties to ice cream socials, the festivities gave students a fun way to celebrate with their friends and family.

YouthQuest’s Got Talent

The Talent Show Club at Eisenhower Elementary put on its first show. For weeks, students brainstormed, choreographed, practiced, created costumes and perfected their acts. The club members collaborated and voted to name the talent show “YouthQuest and Eisenhower Elementary Present: The Kings and Queens Talent Showcase.”

Power to the People

At Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary, in lieu of clubs, staff organized Student Voice and Choice sessions to give students power over what they did. Based on student requests, activities included making slime, taste-testing snacks, basketball and arts and crafts.

Speaking My Language

In the K-2 Sign Language Club at Dye Elementary, students learned how to sign their names. They also learned how to sign phrases including, “Hello, what is your name?” “My name is…” and “Nice to meet you.” Then, students and learned guides practiced conversations using only sign language.
