Each YouthQuest site invited Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce staff that work in other departments to attend their afterschool program. Employees were able to meet YouthQuest students and better learn how the program helps students excel, excite and explore every day.
At Neithercut Elementary, two of the clubs are working together. In Videography 101 Club, students learned everything they need to know about video cameras. Next, the club put their knowledge to the test by filming a music video for the Poetry and Songwriting club.
Students at all YouthQuest sites have been working hard on finishing up their artwork of the 2019 ArtQuest: Street Art. Pieces include self-portraits and graffiti art. In early April, students will have the opportunity to see their art displayed in the lobby of Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy.
This month, students competed in Shark Tank-style competitions to see who will move on to the YQ Biz Expo at the Flint Farmers’ Market on May 4. Students finished up their business plans, created prototypes and pitched their business to groups of community members and business leaders.
YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
