At Pierce Elementary, students hosted a “Poetry Slam Family Night.” The night kicked off with Ms. T’s reading of Phenomenal Women by Maya Angelou. In observance of Black History Month, many students performed poems by black poets, but were also encouraged to come up with their own words.
Multiple sites participated in supporting the troops in February. At Durant-Tuuri-Mott and Neithercut Elementary schools, students wrote letters to men and women in different branches of the military. Additionally, Southwestern Classical Academy, donated 25 packs of socks to veterans.
In the Little Einsteins Club at Doyle Ryder Elementary, students explored elements of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with hands on activities. For instance, students mixed chemicals to see different reactions and learned how drones work.
Students are put in charge of different responsibilities at Brownell STEM Academy. To reinforce youth development and leadership, learning guides allow students to help teach different lessons, clean up after dinner and lead positive affirmation time.
