Earlier this year, many families were impacted by the federal shutdown’s effect on public resources and assistance. Thankfully, Flint is home to many organizations devoted to assisting residents in need. The shutdown may be over, but these resources are always available.
Here are a few resources that may be helpful to those in need this month:
- Carriage Town Mission
Provides emergency food, clothing, emergency housing, youth program, Bible study, camp for youths and religious service. Infant formula available. Must be a parent with proof of child. - Catholic Charities Meal Programs
Serves meals at Holy Angels Soup Kitchen, North End Soup Kitchen, South Flint Soup Kitchen, My Brothers Keeper and Bread of Life. - Cross Over Downtown Outreach Ministry
Provides emergency food, clothing, household goods (basic items), job assistance, and summer youth camp. Clients must have a referral, which can be made online by a GCCARD Head Start staff person. - Eastside Mission
Assists individuals and families in obtaining clothing and food. - Heartbeat of Greater Flint
Provides maternity and baby clothing, diapers and infant formula. Families can also check out baby furniture from the loan closet. - Little Lamb’s Closet
Carries new and gently used children’s clothing in sizes newborn to 5T. The inventory is based on donations and usually includes coats and other outerwear, shoes, boots, socks, tights, blankets, bibs, burp clothes, highchairs, car seats and cribs. Some maternity wear is available. Diapers, formula and baby food is often available as well.
