YouthQuest Highlights: February 2018

BUILDING CITIES

Fourth and fifth grade students at Freeman Elementary participated in the club Box City. Tasked with building their own city out of boxes, students planned and sketched out the location of important city buildings. They then drew roads and discussed important terms used in city planning such as rural, urban or suburban areas.

DO IT YOURSELF

At Randels Elementary, students participated in the Pinterest Delights Club, which focuses on various craft projects. In February, club participants worked on designing their own puzzles. These projects helped students express their creativity while learning concepts such as critical thinking.

BLACK PANTHER

Students at Freeman Elementary and Northwestern High School both took field trips to the theater to see this month’s blockbuster hit: Black Panther. Students have been learning about African Americans who contributed to America’s history during Black History Month and used this opportunity to discuss topics such as what it means to have African Americans in leading roles and how movies like Black Panther relate to their lives.

JUST DESSERTS

At Eisenhower Elementary, Dessert Club teaches students how to make delicious and nutritious desserts on a budget. Students are tested on their math skills by measuring out ingredients and get to have fun with science by paying attention to how ingredients mix together.
