YouthQuest Highlights: December 2017

TRAMPOLINE SCIENCE

After completing a two-week lesson on the science of trampolines, students at Northwestern High School visited SkyZone Trampoline Park, where they used the scientific method to research questions and present their findings. For example, students made predictions on who could jump the highest based on height, weight and force. Their conclusions were based on the data they collected, and they saw whether their hypothesis was proven or not.

UP, UP, AND AWAY

At Holmes STEM Academy, students in the Up, Up and Away Club learned about the solar system, the atmosphere and potential life forms that could exist. The students performed a variety of activities that taught them about outer space.

LETTERS TO SANTA

Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary hosted a Christmas-themed family night, during which students and parents enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies. Students wrote more than 1,000 letters to Santa for Macy’s Believe campaign, which donates $1 to Make-A-Wish for every letter written and collected in stores. This year, Macy’s raised $2 million for the non-profit organization.

TAKING OWNERSHIP

Students at Dye Elementary focused on the importance of being accountable for their actions. Through demonstrating good behavior, students earned the opportunity to see Disney’s Coco at the movie theater. During the field trip, the youth represented YouthQuest, their school and themselves with pride.

YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
