Scholarship Opportunity for Female Seniors with an Entrepreneurial Streak

Know a female high school senior who dreams of opening her own business one day? Let her know that applications are currently being accepted by the Katharine Roat Stevens Fund, which will award up to $1,000 to at least one graduating senior in Genesee County this year.

The scholarship – named for a well-known Genesee County business owner and advocate for women in business – is administered by the Genesee Chamber Foundation. The organization will accept applications through March 31, 2017.

“This is an excellent opportunity for young women interested in starting and managing their own business one day,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Education & Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Genesee Chamber Foundation. “We hope that this scholarship will serve as a stepping stone in achieving their entrepreneurial aspirations.”

To qualify for the Katharine Roat Stevens scholarship, candidates must have:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5; an interest in becoming an entrepreneur
  • 40 hours of volunteer service with Genesee County nonprofits throughout high school
  • Served in leadership roles in school or out of school settings throughout high school
  • Financial need, as established using Federal guidelines of free/reduced lunch eligibility status.

Scholarship applications are available through area high schools or online at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint (www.cfgf.org). For instructions on how to navigate the application website, click here.
