Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery is a local full-production winery, brewery, and distillery in Fenton. The company was founded 16 years ago and recently expanded to include spirits last year. All products made from Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery are made on-site and are sold to the public in two different ways. One, in its taproom which is open six days a week offers beverages alongside food including pizza, sandwiches, and appetizers. Second, is in its full-service banquet venue which holds up to 280 people and serves a catering menu alongside full bar services.
“Our core values are we are passionate, we are a team and we do what it takes,” says Ginny Sherrow, owner of Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery. “Everyone on our team delivers on those values.”
The local business has three main categories of positions. First is the culinary team which prepares and cooks taproom food menu items as well as entree dinners for its full-service banquet venue. Second is the service and coordinator team which directly takes care of the taproom and banquet guests. Third is the production team which works to produce the beer, wine, and spirits made on-site.
Recently, Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery started an apprenticeship program partnered with GST Michigan Works! The program allows individuals interested in the culinary arts the ability to work full-time on the culinary team and go to school part-time in the culinary arts program at Mott Community College.
“All tuition is paid for through the program and the on-the-job full-time training and work includes great pay and benefits,” says Sherrow. “Also, after each class, they complete they receive a merit raise.”
This program started with culinary arts earlier this year and Sherrow hopes to expand the program to its production team next year. Apprenticeship positions are offered first to current employees; however, the business has one professional cook position available.
Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery is currently looking for a cook and service team members. Full-time employees have insurance including dental, vision, and medical, paid time off, and a 401k profit-sharing program. Employees also receive shift meals and drinks, regular bonuses, and discounts on products.
When it comes to qualifications, prospective employees don’t need any formal education but should have an interest in a career in hospitality and be willing to put time into learning the craft.
However, Sherrow says the number one trait each employee should have is a team mentality.
